Tourism in Federación

Federación lies in the Argentine province of Entre Ríos, on the shore of the lake created by the Salto Grande dam on the Uruguay River. It is one of the best-known hot-spring towns in the region: its thermal park draws water from a well 1,268 meters deep, which comes out at about 42 °C.

The town has an unusual story. In the late 1970s, filling the Salto Grande reservoir flooded the original town, and most of its residents moved to the new town, opened on March 25, 1979, a few kilometers away. A few higher neighborhoods of the old town remain, known as Vieja Federación, along with streets that now run into the water.

Besides hot-spring tourism, the area grows citrus, works timber and produces a lot of honey. To continue into Uruguay, the nearest crossing is the bridge over the Salto Grande dam, north of Concordia, which leads to Salto and its hot springs.
